We live in a world where we need a lot of things – except more design. Amsterdam-based designer Ruben Pater (@unlisted_roots) researches, teaches and writes. In the process, he is constantly searching for alternative narratives and creates visual representations of political issues to make them visible to the public. This evening he will share a few chapters from his book ‚Caps Lock‘ with us.

Golnar Kat Rahmani (@golnarkat) describes herself as an observer; interested in people, type history and astronomy. She studied Graphic Design at Tehran University, followed by Visual Communication at Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin. In 2016, she launched Studio Kat Rahmani, which specialises in communication design across typography, type design, identity and editorial design.
Golnar will talk about the project @typeandpolitics . It attempts to depoliticizing Persian-Arabic type by removing the ideological & negative connotations from it.

Daniel Wenzel (@wnzldnl) is a graphic and type designer, who graduated from HTWG Konstanz in 2019 with a thesis on automated type design. He is specialised in utilizing animation-tools and code. After teaching a semester of typography at Elisava in Barcelona, he now works as a senior art director at DIA Studio in Brooklyn.

Vera van de Seyp (@veravandeseyp) is a designer, creative coder and media artist. She has great interest in artificial intelligence, languages and finding systems in chaos. She likes programming her own design tools and sharing her enthusiasm for code. Alongside her own practice as designer/artist, Vera teaches at ArtEZ, Arnhem and KABK, The Hague and gives workshops and lectures across the world.

Guilherme Falcão (@guilhermefalcaoworks) is a Brazilian art director, design manager, editor, and researcher. His design practice encompasses editorial and criticism, education, history, and the relationship between design and culture, as well as research and self-publishing.

Dr. Tom Bieling vertritt die Professur für Designtheorie und -forschung am Zentrum für Designforschung der HAW Hamburg, lehrt Designwissenschaft an der HAWK Hildesheim sowie Designtheorie und Designgeschichte in Kairo und Berlin. Gastprofessuren an der Universität zu Trient und der German University in Cairo. In seiner Forschung beschäftigt er sich mit den sozialen und politischen Dimensionen von Gestaltung, etwa in Bezug auf Alter, Armut, Behinderung, Gender, interkulturellen Dialog oder Protestkultur. Am Design Research Lab der Berliner Universität der Künste (2010–2019) leitete er unter anderem das Forschungscluster Social Design.

Eine Vortragsreihe des Masterprogramms Kommunikationsdesign »No Doubt: About Decisions« mit Vorträgen aus den Bereichen Grafik-Design, Soziologie, Designtheorie und Philosophie. An sechs Abenden eröffnen je zwei Vorträge interdisziplinäre Fragen des Design, immer mit Blick auf gesellschaftsrelevante Aspekte und die Verantwortung von Design, aber auch auf die Zweifel, die sich für Designer:innen heute angesichts globaler Krisen ganz besonders ergeben.
Mara Recklies Forschungsschwerpunkte sind die Philosophie des Designs und philosophische Designkritik. Besonders interessieren sie politische Dimensionen wie intersektional-feministische Perspektiven, der Einfluss der kapitalistischen Lebensformen auf Design, aber auch was wir von dekolonialen Denker*innen lernen können. Sie war wissenschaftliche Miterarbeiterin der HFBK Hamburg und lehrt u.a. an der Burg Giebichtenstein, der HfK Bremen, HCU Hamburg und Kunsthochschule Kassel.

DE Gestalterin und Alumna der Eindhoven Design Academy Ginevra Petrozzi widmet sich der Frage, ob und inwieweit Design eine Verbindung zwischen Metaphysik und Material schaffen kann. Die Vorstellung ihrer Abschlussarbeit „Digital Esoterism“ beleuchtet alternative Rollen, die wir als Designer:innen einnehmen können.
